Damp marketing tactics
Q:
Why are sponges always damp when they come out of their plastic packaging?

A: "...the answer to
this question stems mostly from sales and marketing tactics, says Jeff Hilmer,
General Manager of Crystal Vision Packaging Systems in Torrance, California.
Right: A damp sponge ready for packaging
Most sponges come damp in a heat-sealed package so consumers
can see the true size, color, and shape of the sponge, as well as feel it
(through the plastic wrap, of course). A hard, dried-up sponge is less
attractive than a soft, damp one. Most consumers can't resist the temptation to
squeeze the sponge, Hilmer says.
