Why cows have four stomachs
Why do cows have four stomachs? Lisa, Gervais,
Oregon
Cows evolved four stomach compartments so they can grab
grass and be ready to run if a predator attacks. Later, when life is safer,
they can regurgitate the grass from the first compartment, and digest it at
leisure, chewing their cud. The several compartments also allow cows to glean
nourishment from food otherwise not easily digested.
