• Subscribe to WonderQuest, the weekly Q & A science column (1 column weekly):

  — $100 per column for large daily papers. 

  Smaller weeklies pay less.

• Freelance rates:

  Hourly  — $60 to100 per hour

  Per word * — $1 to $3

*  The word rate isn't so significant as the hourly rate.  Some writing takes such little time that $0.25/word provides my hourly rate.
